Canoeing down the Drôme river, rock-climbing in the Saoû or Vercors forests, touring the Trois Becs, water-walking in the Roanne or Gervanne valleys, flying over the varied landscapes from the Vercors to Provence in a hot-air balloon, glider or paraglider, climbing trees and, of course, hiking, biking, horse-riding, donkey-riding – in the Drôme Valley you have it all.

Hiking in the Drôme from the campsite

Walks and hikes. Whether you’re looking for an easy family walk lasting an hour or two from the campsite, or a more challenging day hike or a longer tour, there’s something for everyone. Each outing is an opportunity to discover the beauty of the landscape, between mountains and crystal-clear waters, and typical heritage features such as vineyard cabins.

Among the most popular:

  • a walk on the Tour plateau to discover the cabanons (2 km),
  • Tour de la montagne Chabrier (4h10 – 10 km),
  • Saint-Christophe chapel and Trois Bornes (5h15 – 14 km) ;
  • the village of Saint-Sauveur-en-Diois (2h45 – 12 km).
  • And don‘t miss the Tour des Trois Becs, a tour of the mythical ridges overlooking the Crest region and the Saoû forest (5 hrs., children aged 7-8 and over).

For lovers of long-distance hiking, two trails pass through Saillans: the GR95 (from Saillans to Lus-la-Croix-Haute) and the GR9 (from the Jura to the Var). In Beaufort-sur-Gervanne (17 minutes from the campsite), you’ll find the GR de pays du Grand Tour de la Gervanne. The Chemin des Huguenots (GR965) passes through La Chaudière (20 minutes from the campsite). The European E4 trail, Europe’s longest hiking trail (10450 km), also passes through Saillans.

Sports activities for amateurs and experts in Saillans

Camping Les Chapelains ★★★ offers a table tennis table. Two tennis courts (hire by the hour) are in the immediate vicinity of the campsite. The soccer pitch alongside the campsite is ideal for ball games and other activities.

All around us, the Drôme Valley offers outdoor activities and nature sports for all tastes.

Cycling and mountain biking on the roads and paths of the Drôme

There are 3,613 km of cycling in the Drôme. From the Les Chapelains campsite, you’ll discover itineraries and routes to suit all tastes, from quiet country roads to mountain passes and mountain biking.

Along the Drôme river, the Vélodrôme cycle route links Viarhôna to Livron-sur-Drôme on the banks of the Rhône at Saillans. The 40 km route takes in small lanes, local roads and sections dedicated to cycling. A leisurely stroll for the whole family!

The Drôme Valley offers mountain bikers a wide variety of routes, from plains to mountains.

The itineraries will take you through pine forests and vineyards, revealing a diversity of landscapes rarely equaled. The Pays de Saillans is covered by 500 km of mountain bike trails and also offers 4 mountain bike trails. Five electrically-assisted mountain bike (EAB) routes are mapped out.

For the more sporty, Saillans is criss-crossed by two major mountain bike trails: Les Chemins du Soleil and the Grande Traversée du Vercors. For fans of bicycle touringThe Drôme offers more than 100 passes to climb: Col de la Chaudière, Col de Rousset, Col de la Machine, Col de Pennes, Col de Grimone, Col de Menée, Col de Soubeyrand, Col de Bacchus, Col des Limouches etc… Club des Cent Cols association offers a 1,260 km circuit including 107 passes with a total vertical drop of 24,000 m.
